Polus Mission Statement

Polus’ mission is to empower individuals by providing access to knowledge that fosters flourishing in the modern world. We believe that current education in the United States utilizes a general catch-all system that focuses on group performance rather than individual understanding or competency. Polus emphasizes accurate and comprehensive information catered to each student’s strengths and weaknesses. Our process is backed by the current cognitive literature regarding learning, memory, and attention. For transparency and continued learning, we invite you to explore the studies and publications that inform our approach on our Research page.

Our Core Values

Every individual’s understanding of reality is shaped by their local environment, parenting, economic status, and collection of knowledge. It is our belief that the aspect each person has the most direct control over is the information they are being exposed to and the attention they bring to the topic. We value cultivating a learning environment that encourages creativity, discipline, and deep focus so every student can realize their highest potential. By building strong communication habits and thoughtful reasoning skills, students grow into confident learners equipped to thrive and contribute meaningfully within a rapidly evolving society.

Polus Philosophy

We believe in staying up to date on the current and relevant cognitive literature to grow and adapt our tutoring style. Each tutor is trained to utilize the Socratic method when presenting information, fostering dialogue that uncovers exactly where each student begins to have a gap in their knowledge. Polus Education’s app is designed to work alongside tutors, providing personalized practice problems, tracking student progress, and highlighting areas that need review—ensuring that learning is targeted, interactive, and reflective. Students learn to communicate in full, descriptive sentences, defending and elaborating on their ideas, and demonstrate understanding of past concepts throughout future sessions to avoid mere memorization. We believe that when individuals value thoughtful, well-reasoned beliefs, intelligent societies inevitably emerge—and our integrated approach with our App ensures that every student has the tools to build and sustain that intellectual foundation.

The Polus Team

Trenton Sativa - Program Designer

Upon and before studying Exercise Science and Philosophy at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Trenton Sativa received several prestigious awards and accolades in Academia including the Horatio Alger National Scholarship, NSU P64 status, NSU Presidents Scholarship, and a featured publication in the Journal of the Society for NeuroSports. He has since studied Chemistry and Philosophy at UT Knoxville. Since the pandemic of 2020, Sativa has been pursuing a career in education with a belief that a focus on individual competency will reverse the growing decline in the USA’s standard of knowledge. In response to the clear communication gap between public schools and parents, Sativa started Polus to create a bridge for students to connect the information given at school to practical skills needed to succeed in society.

Katrina Sativa - Software Developer

After completing high school in just three years, Katrina Sativa began to study Secondary Education at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). With a focus on developing curriculum, the efficacy of varying teaching strategies,  and education history. With a tutoring history going all the back to 2016, Sativa has worked with several companies and school facilities to gain important knowledge of the effectiveness of personalizing education for students. She also attended UT-Knoxville where she expanded her STEM knowledge into the field of Environmental and Soil Sciences. It is her belief that focusing on fundamental skills with a personalized method will result in students excelling past their own dreams.
